Fall Front Porch with Michael’s

Every year we do the same Fall and Halloween decorations on the front porch – mums, a pumpkin, and a wreath.  We always love to keep it super simple with not too much going on, but this year my mom and I decided to switch it up and spruce up the front porch.  Everything we purchased is from Michael’s except for the big lanterns from HomeGoods and the many-years-old porch mat and wreath.

To start, we knew we wanted to do some kind of border around the front door to frame it and make it the center of our fall décor.  We found these super cute maple leaf garland.  We ended up needing three of them to go around the entire door.  After looking at the front door, we also decided that we needed some kind of focal point to go at the top in the middle because there was a big gap that was just staring us down.  So, we made a cute centerpiece for it using maple leaf picks and some pumpkins from a bag full of fall potpourri.  We think it turned out super cute and was just what the front door needed to finish the look.

Next, we started working our way down to the porch itself.  We’ve had ferns on it for a while and thought they were a great pop of fresh green on the porch by the door and used them along with lanterns as the main focus of the porch.  Since we have two different sized lanterns, we separately them to add some symmetry to the porch and filled them with the same fall potpourri that made the garland centerpiece and some fake candles.

The lanterns really became the focus for the porch near the columns, and we used them and fake pumpkins to draw people’s eyes to them.  We used three different sizes of fake pumpkins to create even more symmetry (can you tell we like everything to be balanced?).

Lastly, we worked our way down the steps and added additional pumpkins and flowers.  We purchased some red mums and put the pumpkins around the pot to add more color to the steps.  We left the bottom step empty for kids when they are trick or treating and left a spot for our future carved pumpkin.

Overall, my mom and I are really happy with how the front porch turned out and can’t wait to do similar setup year after year with some additions and changes.  We are also really happy we were able to find everything at Michael’s and use some rewards and some coupons, so we didn’t break the bank when decorating.

Let me know in the comments below how you decorate for fall! We would love some more ideas!!
